Jennerstown Speedway crowns 2021 season-long champions
Zane Ferrell led the first 9 laps of the race, but Dennis Wenner wrecked on the front stretch bringing out the caution. Awtey restarted from the front row with Ferrell and took the lead off the restart and never looked back as the race stayed green.
Awtey had all but wrapped up the championship coming into the race. All the Jenners native needed to do was start the race, but he went on to win both a heat race and the feature. He finished the season with three wins, and 15 top-5's in 19 races.
The Stoystown Auto Wreckers Modified championship came down to the final race. First through third place in the standings was separated by just eight points entering the night. Tom Golik earned the victory to claim his first ever championship at Jennerstown Speedway.
Golik started the race on the front row. Anthony Aiello, who had won the previous three modified championships, trailed Golik by five points entering the night. Aiello earned bonus points with a heat race win as did Doug Glessner, who was third in the standings
Two cautions flew before the field completed one lap. With cars out of the race, the start had Golik and Aiello on the front row with Glessner in Row 2. Golik drove away from the field for the win and the championship as the race stayed green for 20 laps.
Aiello finished the race in second, and Glessner third. The trio finished in the final standings in the same order.
In the One Stop Auto Sales Pro Stock division, Adam Kostelnik had a dominating win. It’s his third win in just six races, but the celebration belonged to teenager Will Hemminger who claimed the first-ever championship in Jennerstown’s newest division.
Hemminger finished fourth on Saturday night in the race. The high school freshman won more than half of the feature events, claiming seven wins and 11 top-5's this year.
With a wreck on Lap 2, the caution set up a restart with Fleegle on the front row. He drove away from the pack, leading 19 of 20 laps for the win and his second consecutive championship in the division.
Kyle Burkholder picked up another win in the Farmers Union Co-Op Chargers on his way to his first championship. He made the pass for the lead on the third lap and drove to his sixth win of the season.
Steve Singo, who was in a tight battle in the points until a hard crash in August forced him to miss a few races, finished second. Nate Valente raced his way to third place, and finished the year second in the points standings.
The Somerset Trust Fast N’ Furious 4’s put on the best race of the night. Michael Saler already had the championship locked up before the race started.
Lance Shawley jumped out to a huge lead. Shawley started on the front row and had a 10 second lead over second place before a caution came out with six laps to go.
On the restart, Shawley had the lead, but Michael Mohle was charging. With two laps to go, Mohle made the pass for the lead and hung on for his first career victory.
