(Jennerstown, PA) The 2018 racing season commenced on May 26, at Jennerstown Speedway Complex, as preliminary heat races were completed for all five divisions of stock cars. But, after “Opening Day 2018” was postponed twice due to weather, only the J&J Truck Equipment RUSH Street Stocks were able to complete their feature race, which was won by Josh Coughenour. For the third week in a row, persistent rain showers altered the schedule at the half-mile oval track, forcing the main events for the Martella's Pharmacies RUSH Late Models, the Stoystown Auto Wreckers RUSH Modifieds, the Farmers Union Co-Op Chargers, and the Somerset Trust Company Fast 'n Furious 4-Cylinders to be rescheduled. The date on which each race will be made up, will be released by track officials within the week.
The 20-lap feature race for the J&J Truck Equipment RUSH Street Stocks was dominated by Josh Coughenour. One of the last year’s biggest winners, Coughenour, ran away from all competitors, in an impressive display of strength over the entire field. Coughenour, of Gray, PA, also won his preliminary heat race. Veteran Mel Wilt advanced from the fifth starting position to place second at the finish line. Rick Meehleib, who has been racing at Jennerstown since the 1990’s, started sixth and placed third in the event, after winning the other heat race. Young Zach Todaro has an impressive run, as the fourth place finisher, and the winner on Opening Day 2017, Aaron Van Fleet was fifth.
