(Jennerstown, PA) After flooding and treacherous rains forced postponement of a nationally televised Sprint Car Race from June 23 to September 15, Jennerstown Speedway Complex will bring the roar of engines back to area sports fans, this Saturday. “Motor Mountain Mania” will get started at 6pm on June 30, and after the races, “The Shane Shaffer Inc ROUND ONE” of the 2018 Ron’s Collision Center Enduro Series will launch.
The Ron’s Collision Center Enduro events are for amateur drivers, competing in street cars (with glass removed and specific safety modifications) to test their skills on the paved oval. Resembling modern-day versions of “Demolition Derby” cars, the mayhem of an Enduro excites the crowd in a slightly different way, than the racing action which precedes it. If Enduro cars crash, fail, or stop moving for any reason, the other competitors must simply drive around the disabled cars; there are no “yellow flag” caution periods for track cleanup during an Enduro. The driver’s goal is to use his or her car in such a way that it can finish the long, 75-lap distance without a mechanical failure, and without pushing the street legal tires beyond their limits. Enduring the on-track chaos is just as important as being speedy in an Enduro, hence the name of the event. Many of the cars visibly display the battle scars of previous events, as the drivers often make contact with one another, as the laps are completed.
In May, rain washed out the first scheduled Enduro of the year. So, June 30 will be the first time for Enduro competitors to hit the track in 2018, as the opening round is presented by Shane Shaffer Inc. Shane Shaffer has sponsored Enduro events repeatedly in the past, and fans stay firmly planted in their seats after the Stock Car Racing portion of the night concludes, eager for the Enduro cars roll onto the oval. Typically, four events per year are scheduled for the Ron’s Collision Center Enduro Series, and over the years several drivers have used this form of competition to launch race car driving careers. For many drivers, Enduro competition is an affordable entry-point into motorsports, since expensive, high performance components are not permitted in these events.
Saturday’s agenda includes preliminary Heat Races and Features for the racing divisions of Martella's Pharmacies RUSH Late Models, Stoystown Auto Wreckers RUSH Modifieds, J&J Truck Equipment RUSH Street Stocks, and Farmers Union Co-Op Chargers. The Chargers will also be making up a rained out Feature Race from May, before the Enduro drivers will kick off their 2018 season. Gates open at 4pm with racing at 6pm.
