On Saturday, August 18, several former Champions and past winners at Jennerstown Speedway will tour the paved oval once again. Although not speeding through “competitive laps,” stars of the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s will reunite on Riggs Industries Night at the races. These heroes of the past will meet the fans, sign autographs, and climb into race cars for a few parade laps around their old stomping ground. The agenda includes the “Arsenberger Trucking Salute to Legends” laps and the Tri-Star Motors 2018 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. All of these activities are in addition to four division of Stock Car Racing, which begins at 6pm.
Among the retired drivers scheduled to appear are former Champion Charlie Cragan, the third leading winner in Jennerstown Speedway history. Jeff Dunmyer, a former Champion of three divisions of racing, will also put a helmet on once again. Larry Wright, a dirt track ace from the era that preceded the track’s paving, who was also a dominant winner in the 1970’s and 1980’s, will be in attendance. Snooky Williams, a winner on dirt and asphalt at Jennerstown, who has since transitioned into a team owner, will also participate. More recently retired, Mark Cottone will greet fans as well – he won Championships in two divisions of racing. In addition to those who will “strap in” to racing machines during the Salute to Legends, other retired drivers are expected to attend, as part of the Hall of Fame ceremony.
During intermission, the new class of Tri-Star Motors Hall of Fame inductees will be enshrined. This year’s honorees include drivers Ed Lynch, Sr., Bobby Henry, Jerry Price, Paul Fess, Sr., and the late Jack Sotosky. Engine builder “Rocket Rick” Koontz will also be inducted.
Gates open at 4pm, on Saturday, with racing at 6pm for the Stoystown Auto Wreckers RUSH Modifieds, J&J Truck Equipment RUSH Street Stocks, Farmers Union Co-Op Chargers, and Somerset Trust Company Fast 'n Furious 4-Cylinders. The Martella’s Pharmacies Late Models have the night off, as Riggs Industries presents the action.
