American Racer Tire Extension w/ Jennerstown Speedway

Published: April 3, 2021

The Jennerstown Speedway Complex recently extended their contract with Lias Tire of Indiana, PA to be the exclusive racing tire provided for the Jennerstown Speedway Complex for years to come. “The familiar American Racer and McCreary Tire products will be seen for years to come'' says speedway general manager Billy Hribar. “The partnership we have formed with Lias Tire and Speciality Tire of American is one of the strongest we have. They have provided a great affordable product with excellent support. This lengthy contract will continue to grow our partnership into the future.”

The American Racer product was first adopted at the Jennerstown Speedway Complex in 2016. The American Racer name is produced by Speciality Tires of America which is locally owned and made in Indiana, Pennsylvania. American Racer was formerly known as McCreary Tire. The McCreary Tire & Rubber Company was founded in 1915 to provide tires to an exploding automotive aftermarket. McCreary built a reputation for quality workmanship and continued to grow as a premium brand in the passenger, light truck, and medium truck tire markets. In the 1960’s, McCreary entered the race car tire market. Throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s, McCreary race tires continued to grow its market share. It maintained a reputation of providing performance excellence on the race track, while economic conditions in the replacement tire market generally forced niche manufacturers to restructure their business models. In 1992 McCreary changed its name to Specialty Tires of America. The new name better reflected the change from a manufacturer of commodity replacement tires to a company with a broader, more “specialized” product offering. This specialization allowed the company to increase its focus on product quality and performance excellence. In 1994, as part of the revitalization of the company, the American Racer brand was introduced. Today after over 50 years of racing tire design and manufacturing, the American Racer brand is raced around the globe on virtually every type of racing vehicle. In 2016 TheCompany introduced the McCreary name to the Asphalt industry once again with the development of a new late model tire. This McCreary racing tire is the same one you will see competing weekly on the Martella’s Pharmacies Late Models at the Jennerstown Speedway Complex. “Working with Jennerstown has been one of the best things we could have done for our brand at Specialty Tires. It must be a Top-5 of the best paved venues in the country. Ownership and management of the facility have transformed this speedway Into a world class facility. We are honored to be part of their support team long into the future. They are great people to work with,” says Scott Junod, Director of Racing at Speciality Tires.

Lias Tire will continue to be the exclusive provider of the McCreary and American Racer Tires for the speedway. The Lias family of Indiana, PA opened Lias Tire, Inc. in 1933 doing passenger tire and auto service work. The Lias family started a small speed shop selling race car parts and McCreary tires to local racers in the mid 1970s. Employees purchased the business in 1992 and have operated it since expanding the racing division to now service 7 states in the northeast. Jennerstown Speedway is in Lias Tire's backyard only 45 minutes from the American Racer factory making it the closest exclusive racetrack for the brand. "I can't say enough about Jennerstown Speedway and the people involved there, what they have been able to do in such a short time is simply amazing! It's great for us as a distributor to have this racetrack in our backyard. We've worked closely with management to build a tire program that has provided both a great product and great racing for the teams. Seeing what has been accomplished in the first five years makes me very excited to see where the future of this partnership takes us both”, says Dustin Leverknight, manager of racing. Jennerstowns Speedways 2021 season will open with two practice days on Saturdays April 17th and April 24th followed by a 6 division opening night on Saturday May 1st 2021.
