(Jennerstown, PA) For the first time since the Jennerstown Speedway Complex changed from a dirt track to a paved oval speedway, the Xtreme Sprint Car Tour will bring open-wheel, winged sprint cars to the Laurel Highlands. The nationally televised race will occur on Saturday, June 23, and sports fans are eager to witness the record-shattering speeds that these unique machines will reach, in competition.
Utilizing fuel-injected 410 cubic inch engines, Sprint Cars boast the most favorable “horsepower to weight ratio” in all of motorsports. Weighing only 1600 pounds, and producing upwards of 700 horsepower, sprint cars accelerate like no other machine. (Compare these numbers to the average weight of a passenger car at more than 4000 pounds, and the average mid-size sedan which produces 180 horsepower.) The most noticeable trait of the open-cockpit, open-wheel sprint cars, is the large overhead wing. The giant aluminum side panels of the wing stabilize the cars, aerodynamically, through the turns of an oval track like Jennerstown. The center panel of the wing, supplies tremendous downforce on the straight-aways, using the wind to press down on the rear drive wheels of the car. Fueled by methanol, these amazingly engineered speedsters provide thrills all over the nation, and are making their first stop in tour history at Jennerstown Speedway, June 23.
“In the 1970’s and 1980’s Sprint Cars were the main attraction at Jennerstown Speedway, sliding through the dirt and dust, every Saturday night,” Speedway Promoter Mike Lysakowski pointed out. “The difference on the asphalt surface is, instead of losing velocity to ‘tire spin’ on a slick mud track, these cars will put all that power to the ground with great traction, and reach speeds that may have never been witnessed before. We expect to re-write the track’s record time, after the qualifying session for the sprint cars at 5pm on June 23. That date should be a historic one to remember, in the history Jennerstown Speedway.”
Televised on the MAV-TV network, the Xtreme Sprint Car tour, is part of the “Must See Racing” group based in the Midwest. Most of the events in the series’ history have occurred in Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio. Southern visits occur each year also in the Carolinas, but the reach of the series is far beyond the states in which the sprint cars actually perform. Through the national cable network coverage, "The World's Fastest Short Track Cars" are brought into the homes of over 140 million viewers each year.
“It’s a documented statement; not just hype, when Must See Racing uses the phrase ‘World’s Fastest Short Track Cars,’” Lysakowski confirmed. “With four times the power of your street car, and less than half the weight, the talented drivers of these machines need fighter-pilot reflexes and vision to race one another wheel-to-wheel at such unbelievable speeds.”
Joining the Xtreme Sprint Cars on Saturday June 23, will be the Martella's Pharmacies RUSH Late Models, the J&J Truck Equipment RUSH Street Stocks, Farmers Union Co-Op Chargers, and Somerset Trust Company Fast 'n Furious 4-Cylinders, making for a five division night of racing. The Xtreme Sprint Cars will have on track practice sessions at 2:00pm, with qualifying at 5:00pm and racing 6:00pm. Gates open at 2:00pm.
